About John H. Smith, III
John H. Smith, III was born in Los Angeles and was raised in Orange County during the 50s and 60s in Brea, California. Mr. Smith commenced his solo Law Practice in Brea upon his admission to the California Bar in 1985 and was admitted later that year to the Federal Court, Southern District of California. He has limited his practice to Family Law for over 30 years. He has successfully represented hundreds of clients, some of which whose cases have resulted in opinions being issued by the Appellate Court.
Mr. Smith has been involved with those suffering from mental health and addiction related illnesses for over 35 years as the former Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The John Henry Foundation which treats and houses people who suffer from Schizophrenia spectrum illnesses.
He is a co-founder and former Chief Financial Officer of A Mission for Michael, a dual-diagnosis treatment program, named for his son, located in South Orange County, treating those afflicted with mental health and addiction illnesses.
He has also authored an article entitled “Family Law and Mental Health” which refers to how mental health and addiction affects families which was published in the June 2004 edition of Orange County Lawyer magazine.
Helping those afflicted is a life-long passion for Mr. Smith, since he has had several family members who have needed help. He understands how the family is affected.
He has practiced exclusively Family Law at his current offices located overlooking Anaheim Stadium on Katella Avenue in Anaheim, California since 2003.
